We regret to announce the passing of Lois Louise Lewis on August 26, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Robert A.N. and Mae (Libbey) MacDonald.
Lois grew up on Rockdale Avenue, was a member of First United Church and had a 37-year career with MT&T where she made many life long friends. She retired in 1995 and became a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Lois is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Adam W. Lewis, her daughter Cynthia M. Lewis (Sean Greaves), her two grandchildren Libbey and Adam Greaves who were the light of her life, fur baby Jenni Bear, brother Brent (Pieke) MacDonald, goddaughter Maureen MacDonald, sister-in-law Mary Lou MacDonald, brother-in-law Don Brown, and many nieces and nephews.
Lois spent many summers at the bungalow (Maebob) in Ben Eoin and later in life boating on the Mira River. On August 31, 2001 Lois was given “the gift of life” in the form of a double lung transplant at the age of 61. It’s then she wanted to express the importance of organ donation by travelling from school to school sharing her story. Lois was a member of the Pulmonary Fibrosis Disease support group sharing her experiences with others and was a long-time attendee of the Cape Breton Heart and Lung Wellness Center.
Lois was predeceased by brothers Howard MacDonald, Brian MacDonald, Ronnie MacDonald, sister Ruth (Danny) MacFadyen, sisters-in-law Joyce Brown and Joan (Buddy) Sharpe.
The family is very thankful for the years of healthcare and support from the VON and recently Palliative Care. Special thanks to Dr. David Brake, Pat Popwell, Dr. Yolanda D’Intino, Dr. Blair Williams and Dr. Shaf Keshavjee who performed mom’s double lung transplant.
To her anonymous donor almost 22 years ago….. Thank you.
