Linda’s Story
Linda was born in Victoria, British Columbia and grew up in Winnipeg. There, she met Bud Begay in high school and they married on May 21st, 1965. They moved to Toronto and settled in North York to raise their family. They developed many strong and lifelong friendships during this time, and often refer to the happy memories with the ‘Apache Trail gang’. She especially enjoyed hosting her annual Boxing Day party and insisted on continuing this tradition right up until 2021.
Linda began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher at Havergal College. She eventually chose to stay home for many years to raise her three children, and during this time became very active within her community. She was a natural and well-loved leader, and as such, was often promoted to heading up numerous clubs and committees. She eventually returned to teaching, as this was her natural calling.
Linda maintained a very active lifestyle, participating in fitness classes, dance, swimming, and water aerobics. Her greatest passion was horse back riding. She began to ride when she was in her mid-twenties, and she continued until she was 73 years young.
Linda was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease approximately 15 years ago. She faced this diagnosis with incredible strength and determination. She persevered and surpassed many doctors’expectations, causing some to question whether she even had this debilitating illness.
Linda loved to travel, and she and Bud shared many adventures. They toured Europe on numerous occasions, hiking on mountaintops and sharing wine and cheese at roadside stops. They enjoyed beaches across the Caribbean and cruises through the Greek islands.
Linda loved to shop and was notorious for her thrift store treasures. She had a great love of animals, and owned pets throughout every stage of her life. She loved to putter in the kitchen, and had an incredible green thumb, filling the house and gardens with flowers and beauty.
Above all, Linda was an amazing mother and wife. Bud lovingly refers to her as his ‘Super Woman’. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends and will be thought of daily. She will always be remembered with laughter and love.
As per Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
If so desired, donations can be made in Linda’s memory to Parkinson Canada or the Lincoln County Humane Society .
