Obituary
In loving memory of
Linda Irvine (nee Scottnicki)
March 1954 – February 2022
It is with deep sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Linda Irvine at her Protection Island home in February.
Linda is survived by her husband Jim and their daughters Sara (Ryan) and Melanie (Jon), grandchildren Micah, Elias, Lilith, and Eris, brother Tom (Susie) and sister-in-law Iris. She is predeceased by her granddaughter Scarlet, brother Vic, and parents Mary and Peter.
Linda, a powerful force in a small body, taught in the Nanaimo School District for 20+ years at both the elementary (Library) and high school (Library and Science) levels.
Trained initially as a marine biologist, Linda loved few things better than inspecting the intertidal flora and fauna around Protection Island, or beaches anywhere. She was also a great lover of children’s literature, one of the early leaders of the Vancouver Island Book Festival with an impressive collection of children’s books and original artwork. She also loved her garden on Protection.
A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held May 28 from 2:30 to 4:30 at Beacon House on Protection Island. Memories will be shared during the first hour, including any provided on the Tribute Wall.
There was little that Linda enjoyed more than sharing a story with loved ones. To mark her memory, her family recommends you curl up with a good book for an hour or more and let the story carry you away. Donations to the Village Medical Project www.vmpsl.org or a charity of your choice would also be appreciated.
