With great sadness and peace our family announces the passing of our wonderful, selfless, and caring Mom, sweet and huggable Grandma, and patient and loving Wife, Marlene, on August 19, 2022, at the age of 77.
Marlene, Mom, Grandma, Auntie, Mrs. C, Momma Carr, was born May 15, 1945, at the General Hospital in Calgary to Harry and Lila Edge. She was predeceased by her parents and her younger brother Ellis who passed earlier this year.
Left with wonderful, loving memories are; her husband of 54 years, Robert Carr, her children and grandchildren, Kevin, Cody (Kari) Carr and their children Davin, Danny (passed) and Kaitlynne, Shawna (Tony) Doucette and their children Ashley and Addison. And her loyal cat Maxine.
Extended family includes her sister-in-law’s, and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews; Pat Edge and her daughters Tracey (Bryan Willms) and grandchildren Kylie and Owen, Stephanie (Jason Fradette) and grandchildren Heidi, Amy and Andie, and Shannon Edge; Marilyn De Pena and her son Darren (Emily) and grandchildren Rylie, Reagan and Rexton, daughter Duanette (Jim Robinson) and grandchild Katherine, and son Darcy and grandchild Dylan; Sylvia Davis and sons Jeff (Mary) and Brad (Brenda) and grandchildren Justin, Cain and Kyler; Bev Magnuson and sons Trevor (Jenny) and grandchildren Hayden, Pax and Liv, Tyler and Aeri (fiancé) and grandchild Isabelle, and daughter Shannon (Chad Morrill) and grandchildren Kaiden (passed), Jaidra and Zander.
Too numerous to mention are the many dear cousins and beautiful friends that were so very dear to her heart. Marlene was raised in Cochrane in the Jumping Pound/Brushy Ridge area. She grew up and went to school with a number of her cousins in a one room schoolhouse. She would later attend Mount Royal College where she met her best friend, Diana. That is when her life in Cochrane transitioned to Okotoks as she was introduced to Robert, and the rest is history as one would say.
All who know the Edges can attest that they all share witty humor, love to joke and are quick to laugh. Marlene was no different. She was young at heart, loved travelling, enjoyed a deep conversation as well as lighthearted banter. She could stay up all night with you till she couldn’t find her nose. Or she could, sit, listen, and cry with you.
Marlene’s greatest pride and joy was her children and grandchildren. She would do anything to make life easier for her family. She was the glue, the putty and the binder twine that kept the family and the farm running smoothly. Her three children that she raised loved her dearly, along with the friends they brought home. She drove a school bus for many years, and treated those kids with the same standards. She was always a safe place to land, a friend, and an amazing listener. Marlene never judged or criticized and always had a cup of coffee available. Whether it was a fresh pot or a reheated cup in the microwave, she would always welcome you in with a big smile ready to listen to your day, your adventure, and was always eager for a good story and a laugh. Very few could escape without a hug and anyone who walked into her kitchen left as family.
Marlene passed peacefully, surrounded by all her immediate family, in the incredible care of the Rising Sun nurses in Black Diamond.
Our family wishes to thank the many friends and family for their love and support given during this difficult time. Please keep sending us those stories and memories of our Mama Carr that we shared with so many others, it keeps our hearts warm.
