Lewis Aubrey Sawler
1926-2022
It is with profound sadness we announce the
passing of Lewis Aubrey Sawler, of North Alton, on Tuesday, May 31,
2022 in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital –
Veteran’s Wing, Middleton, at the age of 95. Born in
Kentville, he was a son of the late George and Annie (Medicraft)
Sawler and the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
Lewis was brought up in a carpentry family and
knew hard work from a young age. He joined the army at the age of 17
to serve in WWII to defend his country. After the end of the war,
Lewis went back to his roots in carpentry and worked for A.W.
Allen’s for four years, then went onto work with his father
in running their flooring business, from where he retired after 35
years. He was a people person with a big personality, broad smile, and
the need to keep his hands and mind busy all the time. He was also a
talented craftsman, well known for his ox whips, as well as various
other crafts.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased
by his wife, Shirley (Parker); son, Richard; and brothers, Beverley
(Erna) and Donald. He is survived by a granddaughter, Julie (Gary
McMillan) of New Minas; sister-in-law, Linda Sawler of Hortonville;
and dear friend and personal caregiver, Dot Redden of New
Minas.
Lewis’ family would like to thank the
staff of the Veteran’s Wing in Soldier’s Memorial
Hospital for the exceptional care he received during his time
there.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no
visitation by request. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
on Monday, June 6, 2022 in Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Reverend
Shirley Cole officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may
be made to a charity of choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the
