Obituary of Leonard Victor Hokanson
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Leonard Victor Hokanson, 69, of Lousana, AB on August 16th, 2022.
Leonard was born on May 6th, 1953 to Victor and Frieda Hokanson in Wadena, SK. The youngest of 7 children, Leonard was doted on by all his older sisters, who made sure he was well looked after on the busy Hokanson farm.
After leaving the farm, Leonard struck out on his own, heading first to Calgary. One of his first jobs was trucking for the Mattiotis.
In 1973, he met Carole Rioux and they wed in 1974, going on to have and raise three children: Cory, Stacy and Darrel. In 1980, Leonard and family moved to Innisfail where he soon became Innisfail’s Town Foreman. They enjoyed good years in Innisfail, making lifelong friendships and providing stable roots for their children. In 1993, Leonard started a new job adventure, this time as an equipment operator, for various oilfield companies. In 1996, proving himself a more than able operator, Leonard saved enough money to buy some property in Lousana and it wasn’t long until they poured a basement and put up their forever home. Amazing family memories were made, with children getting married there and having children of their own.
Leonard retired from the oilfield in 2019. But, instead of resting on his laurels, he started up his own sawmill and began sawing and selling his custom lumber products. Leonard was always very talented and hardworking, and it wasn’t long before he became very good at sawmill operations.
Unfortunately, medical issues plagued Leonard’s efforts during his last few years, making physical exertions hard on him. Leonard, true to form did not let anything get in the way of what he thought he needed to do. He got more oxygen tanks, lost some weight and carried on the heroes journey he was always on.
Leonard is predeceased by his parents Victor and Frieda Hokanson; sisters Sharon Hokanson and Leona Braybrook; brother Jim Peace; grandson Quinton Mason; brothers-in-law Edward Braybrook and Gordon Kunz.
He is survived by his wife Carole; sisters Margaret (Carl) Shiels, Florence Kunz, and Marion Gordon; children Cory (Jennifer) Mason, Stacy (Sam) Webber, and Darrel Hokanson; grandchildren Arianna (Tyson) Bauman, Graydon (Maddison) Webber, Ryan (Brigitte) Webber, Darian Hokanson, and Zachary (Taylor) Fernandez.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Leonard
