Léo Gionet
1939-2022
At the Tracadie Hospital, on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the
age of 83, passed away suddenly Leo Gionet, husband of Catherine
Robichaud. Born in Caraquet, on January 18, 1939, he was the son of
the late Leonard Gionet and the late Anna Albert.
Beside his wife of the last 59 years, he is survived by three
daughters: Natalie (Chris), Chantal (Manu) and Joanne (Mike); two
grandchildren: Alisha and Liam; three brothers: Reg (Carol), Roger
(Leona) and Lionel (Diane), as well as several brothers-in-law,
sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was
predeceased by his brothers and sisters: Marie-Estelle (late Albanie),
Valmont (late Gisele), Paul (late Eveline), Julien, Gilles (Mabel),
Lorenzo (Claudette), Alyre (late Lydia) and Benoit (late
Rolande).
Leo and Catherine met in Montreal and married in 1963, they
travelled across Canada living in various cities/towns.
Mining brought them to Sus area and both settled happily at their
home in Penobsquis.
As a father, he provided his
“girls” with the self-confidence to do anything in
life and encouraged them to do so. He was a proud
grandfather and loved to spend time with Alisha and Liam. Leo was
devoted to his family and close friends. He will be missed,
remembered and cherished by many.
Leo lived his life with
dignity, he believed in always providing a helping hand to whoever was
in need. He always gave without the expectation of receiving
anything in return.
His last days were spent
enjoying family, not far from his childhood home of
Caraquet. He got to say a few goodbyes to the fortunate who
were with him.
May he finally get his long deserved rest
and be at peace.
The family would like to express their
gratitude and appreciation to all who have helped with the care of
both Catherine and Leo over the years, particularly to our devoted
family-neighbors Norbert and Sarah Strang.
A private
celebration of life with close friends and family will be held at a
later date.
Memorial donations made to medical research –
Parkinson’s, Dementia, Heart & Lung diseases would
be greatly appreciated by the
family.
