Lena “Marie” Black
1933-2022
The family of Lena “Marie” Black is saddened to
announce her sudden passing in the Valley Regional Hospital on
November 2, 2022. She was the only daughter of Earl and Lena (Lutz)
Webster born in Oxford, Mass. on March 11, 1933. The family returned
to Nova Scotia in 1936 and settled in the Annapolis
Valley.
Marie was schooled in Aylesford. Later, the family moved to
Kentville, where she attended Kentville schools and then graduated
from Mack Business College. Her first employment was with EBC (CKEN)
as a content writer and later with the law firm Shaw, Waterbury and
Black.
In June 1955 she married W. Marshall Black, son of J.R. and
Helen Black.
Marie is survived by her three children, Natalie Joan Maybank
(Robert), Riverview, NB; William “Bill” Marshall (Dorothy),
Centreville, NS; Sheri Marie (Wilfred Barker), Kentville; five
granddaughters, Jennifer Maybank, Ottawa; Dr. Allison Maybank,
Halifax; Kaitlyn and Jessica Black, Centreville; and Emily Black,
Windsor; nephews, David Webster, Alberta; Ken Webster (Janice)
Kentville and Steven Webster (Gigi), Ottawa. She is also survived by
her step brother-in-law, Robert Bishop, (Bernadette) and son,
Ewan.
She was predeceased by her husband Marshall, brothers Earle
Webster, Cyril Webster and nephew Jim Webster.
Marie was a 60 + year member of Evangeline Chapter OES No.
15. A former member of the Olympic Chapter of the IODE and Life
Membership to the Provincial Chapter of Nova Scotia IODE. She was a
member of St. John’s Anglican Church (Parish of Cornwallis) and the
A.C.W. She was also involved in the Guiding Movement and a Brown Owl
for many years. She and Dad delivered Meals on Wheels for several
years.
Mom enjoyed a good drink when she could and a good joke. She
also enjoyed making homemade ice cream for family and the Hall’s
Harbour kids back in the day.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, nurses and
doctor at the Valley Regional Hospital emergency for the compassionate
care they gave mom. We would also like to thank Eleanor, Samantha and
Wanda for all the loving care they gave mom over the years. We were
truly blessed to find such excellent care givers.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by
request. The combined Eastern Star and funeral service will be held at
2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022 in the White Family Funeral
Home, Kentville (with video webcast). Family flowers only, by request.
The family has asked that masks be worn to keep everyone safe.
Donations may be made to Chrysalis House or Evangeline Chapter
Scholarship Fund. A private interment service will be held in the Elm
Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Funeral arrangements have
been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation
