LELAND WAYNE HUMPHREYS
Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by family, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leland Wayne Humphreys on May 3, 2022, at Grace Hospital at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan. Daughters Dori (Tony), Denise (Greg), Diana and stepson Alan (Kelly). Brother Neil (Marilyn). Granddaughters Ella and Poppy. Nieces Honor (Niko) and Leigh (Ryan) and a great uncle to Aria, Noah, Ellis, Isabell and Ruby as well as many other family, former spouse May, and numerous friends made over the years.
Wayne is predeceased by his father Idris Leland and mother Dorothy Humphreys.
Dad was born in Winnipeg living his early years in Brandon, then back to Winnipeg with his retirement years just north of Gimli.
He worked as a mechanic prior to joining the St James Fire Department in 1970 where he served the citizens of Winnipeg for 32 years, retiring in the rank of Captain in 2002. He made many life long “brotherhood” friends who live by the motto “WE HOLD THEE SAFE”.
Cars were Dad’s passion – ALL his life. In his younger years, he always had a different car. In retirement, he used his extraordinary talent for fixing and restoring antique cars, taking them apart and putting them back together making stunning master pieces. Words can not describe the quality of his workmanship. Entering car shows to show off his work was not his thing – he just wanted to build them. Dad could build or fix anything including his Gimli home and dream garage and had a concrete side business up until retirement.
On Sundays, you always knew he was watching NASCAR. He enjoyed watching hockey, the Jets, CFL and NFL. He loved Maui until this travelling years were done and spent many of early years in Spruce Sands.
Wayne loved his family, was there if you needed him, making sure everyone was taken care of. We are so grateful and proud to have had him in our lives.
We want to thank Grace Hospital doctors, nurses and staff for caring for our Dad and allowing us to be by his side in his last moments. We also want to thank Cancer Care.
As dad wished, Cremation will take place with no funeral services.
In lieu of flowers – donations can be made to Cancer Care or Fire Fighters Burn Fund.
Condolences may be sent to www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
Rest in Peace until we meet again. Your pain is now gone.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Leland Wayne Humphreys February 27 1942 May 3 2022..
