Rupert “Leigh” Catchpaugh passed peacefully away on May 7, 2022 at age 87 in Brockville, Ontario with his loving wife of 62 years, Jeannette (n. Chiasson) Catchpaugh, by his side.
Leigh was born on September 14, 1934 to Gertrude (n. Whittier) and Percy Catchpaugh in Sherbrooke, Quebec. In 1960, Leigh married the love of his life, Jeannette, in Sept-Iles, Quebec and they had three children: Christina (John Lenihan), Wanda (John Hanna), and Jason.
Leigh is predeceased by his beloved son, Jason Rupert, his brother and sister-in-law Charles and Doris, his nephew, Philip, and his parents.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and John Lenihan, and Wanda and John Hanna. Leigh was the much loved “Grandpaugh” of Kelsie Lenihan (Nathan Birrell), Rebecca Lenihan (Mathieu Alarie), Morgan Lenihan (Bryn Karcha), and Jackson Hanna, and the proud Great-Grandpaugh of Eoin and Bryn, and Sophia and Jordan. Leigh will also be missed by his nephews, Dalton Catchpaugh and Trevor Catchpaugh, and niece, Donna Langlois.
Leigh will be fondly remembered for his kind heart, the ever present “twinkle in his eye,” and being the best Santa Claus to one and all. He is also remembered for his life-long love of horses and the outdoors.
Leigh’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Brockville General Hospital for all of the care and support they have shown over the past several months.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date in his hometown, Magog, Quebec, where he will be laid to rest beside his son by his family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Society.
