LCol J D (Jack) Trueman, CS (Ret’d)
1934-2022
John “Jack” Trueman, of Riverview passed away March
29, 2022 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Sackville he was the son of
the late Stephen and Vessa (Cadman) Trueman. After graduating from
Moncton High School in the mid-fifties, he began working in the
accounting field holding various positions with Modem Construction,
Wheaton Construction, and a local Poultry Processing Company. In 1962
he moved into the restaurant business and over the course of the next
few years he managed a number of local food establishments. In the
mid-seventies, Jack joined the Provincial Civil Service as an assessor
and remained with the Province until his retirement in
1997.
Lieutenant Colonel Trueman began his military career as a
cadet with the 560 Moncton Army Cadet Corps in 1949 following over 30
years of service, Lieutenant Colonel Trueman retired and transferred
to the Supplementary Reserves. Finally, in November 2006, Jack was
called back to the Canadian Forces, this time as Honorary Lieutenant
Colonel of his old Regiment, the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess
Louise).
During his long career, Jack was awarded the Canadian
Decoration Clasp, the Silver and the Golden Jubilee Decoration. He was
made a life member of the Royal Canadian Artillery Association, the
Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (Cavalry) Association and the 8th
Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) Regimental Association. He was
also a member of Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Association and
the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6, Elks Lodge #229, Greater Moncton
Crime Stoppers, and Riverview Emergency Measures
Organization.
Jack will be remembered and missed by his daughter Pam (Troy
Denton) Trueman of Moncton, son Peter (Denise) Trueman of Riverview,
grandchildren Patrick, Cody, Kyle, and Jaclyn, and step grandchildren
Emily and Nathan. Jack will also be remembered by his brother Douglas
(Betty) Trueman, sisters Audrey Hammerli, Anne (Ron) Murray, and
Elizabeth (Jim) Stockwell, brother-in-law Edward “Ted”
(Lillian) Coneen of Manhurst, NB., sisters-in-law Joan Coneen and
Addie Coneen, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he
was predeceased by his wife of 60 years Eleanor Trueman, brother
Donald Trueman and his wife Carole, brothers-in-law Bud, Al (Anne),
and Bob Coneen, and sisters-in-law Marion (John) Devereaux and Ruth
Coneen.
Jack’s family will be receiving friends and
relatives at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330
Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Monday, April 4, 2022 from
6:00pm till 8:00pm. with the Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch #6,
holding a memorial service at 5:45 PM. A service to celebrate his life
will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00am with Rev. Steve
Berubé presiding. At the family’s request, face
masks are recommended for those who wish to attend. Donations in
Jack’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s United
Church, Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a charity of the
donor’s choice. A special thank you to the staff and
volunteers of the Canterbury Hall and The Moncton Hospital Palliative
Care for the kindness and compassion shown to Jack during his
stay.
