Obituary
We are sorry to announce the passing of our Father Lawrence Roy Gushulak on February 22, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife Hilda and parents Pete and Margaret Gushulak. He will be greatly missed by his children Kathy, Laura, Barb and Ken (Lisa), his sister Shirley, grandchildren Cale (Kristen), Ryan (Elizabeth) and Sidnie (Derek) and John, and his lifelong friend Sanford as well as many nieces and nephews, most notably Ricki, Rashaun and Marni.
Dad was born in Erickson, MB on July 21, 1936. He left school at 16 to work for hydro, first in B. C. and then in Saskatchewan. He married Hilda Zimmer on May 21, 1960 in Rackham, MB and moved the family to Ste. Rose du Lac in 1966 when they bought the Ste. Rose Hotel.
Dad was a lifelong sports fan. You could find him happily heckling the opposing teams from his favourite corner in the Ste. Rose arena. He played baseball and curled until he was in his late ‘70s.
Dad believed in community. He supported many local organizations in fundraising events and sponsored many sports teams from the surrounding areas, but he was definitely best known for his sense of humour. He was a champion teaser of small children and loved to hand out Halloween candy, most likely making you sing something or tell a joke before you got a treat. And who can forget his famous death stare over the top of his glasses when you were in trouble? Some of us being much more familiar with it than others.
We would like to thank Dr. Gudmundson and the Ste. Rose Hospital staff for taking such good care of him and also his good friend Raymond who helped in countless ways.
A celebration of Lawrence’s life will take place on Friday, July 8th, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Ste Rose Community Centre.
Should friends so desire, please consider making a donation to the Turtle River Trails Project c/o the Municipality of Ste. Rose, Box 748, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, R0L 1S0 or to the Ste. Rose Recreation Commission to assist minor hockey and baseball in our community.
Dad may have left the ballpark but he is forever in our hearts.
