Langley, Laura “Jean” Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia
Jean passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, at sunset, on Monday, November 21, 2022. Jean was born April 26, 1928 to the late Edith (Fraser) and the late John Cameron and was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, James S. Langley “Jimmy Nick”.
Jean grew up on the farm on the Dunmore Road, Port Hood, where she also began her teaching career in the one room school. She went to Normal College and upgraded her education throughout her career. Teaching children gave her great pleasure and she enjoyed reuniting with former students. Jean had a special place in her heart for her teaching colleagues and maintained them as lifelong friends.
Jean loved nature. Her yard was filled with trees, flowers and vegetable gardens. She found beauty in wild flowers and trees and was most happy strolling in fields and wooded trails, sharing this love with her grandchildren.
Animals were very special to her and would walk her dogs many times a day in all kinds of weather. Jean’s special cat, Lily, was always at her side.
A lover of the fiddle, Jean regularly attended ceilidhs and, as a young girl, walked many miles to attend square dances. She also enjoyed photography, oil painting, knitting, and quilting blankets for family and a good game of cards.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jean. Her home on Granville Street, Port Hawkesbury, was her happy place and she was very content there.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Janice, Port Hood; Arlene, Port Hawkesbury; and Debora, Fort McMurray; grandchildren, Sarah, Rebecca (Troy) and Jessica (Tiffany) Bussey, Halifax; Laura and Leanne Langille, Port Hood; Alyson Langley, Fort McMurray and great-grandchildren, Hallie, Cameron, and Madison Lamey, Halifax; Ben Bussey, Halifax; Sebastian and Nicholas Bezeau, Port Hood; Easton and Emmerson Langille, Port Hood; Joslyn, Beau and Lexi Brushett, Fort McMurray. Jean was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by brothers, Gary Thompson and John Clarence Cameron; son-in-law, Roland Wayne Langille; sister-in-law, Norma Marie Langley; brother-in-law, George Bain Langley.
We are indebted to Dr. Collins for his support and kindness over the years. As well, our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the Inverness County Home Support team, who did much more than provide excellent care. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
