In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that the family of Larry Franklin Stillwell, age 73, of New Minas, Nova Scotia announces his passing on December 8th, 2022, at the QEII in Halifax after a brief illness. Born on October 1st, 1949, in Middleton, he was the son of the late Jack and Lorraine (Lowe) Stillwell. Larry is predeceased by his loving wife Jane (Brown), and will be deeply missed by his sons Jason, Hamilton; and Geoffrey, Burlington; as well as his daughter Emily (Jon Arora) of Burlington. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Alex (Brenda), New Dublin; Alan (Tammy), Fall River; and sister Deborah Forsyth, New Minas; as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. After studying science at Dalhousie University, Larry began his career in surveying both the land, and water. He worked for the Bedford Institute of Oceanography for a short time. This early career brought him as far north as the Yukon, and south to the Caribbean Sea. He then embarked on an almost 40-year career with Ford Motor Company of Canada. He started in the Halifax office, in dealer development, before becoming National Heavy Truck Account Manager, and Regional Truck Manager for Atlantic and Midwestern Regions and the Commercial Truck Operations Manager taking him as far west as Winnipeg, and back to Oakville where he spent many years as the Commercial Sales Manager. In his retirement, he moved back to the Annapolis Valley, and found enjoyment in spending time giving back to his community. He was a board member of The Flower Cart Group, Central Kings Community Health Board, as well as a member of the Nova Scotia Health Authority, the Rotary Club of Kentville, and the Valley Soup Kitchen. The family wishes to express gratitude for the wonderful care Larry received by the doctors, nurses, and other staff at the QEII Hospital in Halifax. In keeping with Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements are entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home. A private family graveside service and memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Heart & Stroke Canada, Canadian Hemophilia Society, or The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
