HOLMES, Larry Donald (November 19th, 1939 – June 15th, 2022) –
Passed away, suddenly, but peacefully, at his London residence, on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, Larry Donald Holmes, formerly of Arva, in his 83rd year. Born in Tillsonburg, son of the late Howard Milton Holmes (born in Walsingham) and the late Evelyn (Pickersgill) Holmes. Recently predeceased by his much-loved wife of sixty-one years Joan Christine (Pitcher) Holmes (September 3rd, 2021). Survived by a son Chris Holmes (Debbie), Carp, Ontario; and a daughter Shelley Holmes, of RR2 Ilderton. Proud and loving grandfather who will be lovingly remembered by: Brian, Jason, Shannon, Alex and Trevor and Corey. Survived by his brother John (Kim) Holmes, Tillsonburg and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by two brothers Robert and Wayne Holmes.
Larry grew up on a tobacco farm near Langton. He later attended Annandale High School where he excelled at sports, especially basketball. He later attended and graduated from the University of Western Ontario engineering after which he “could make or fix anything”. Larry played basketball for Western, as well. Later Larry went on to coach the Girls Basketball Team for the City of Ottawa. He studied and became a licensed pilot. Larry throughout his life had a passion for basketball, football, squash, cross-country skiing, and watching the Toronto Raptors.
In keeping with Larry’s expressed wishes, private family burial has taken place in the Holmes Family Plot, Tillsonburg Cemetery.
