A Life Well
Lived
With deep sadness and much love, the family of
Kenneth Pineo of Berwick, announces his peaceful passing, in the
embrace of his family, at the Valley Regional Hospital, on Wednesday
August 17, 2022. Born in Berwick on November 30, 1943, he was the only
son of Ralph and Marjorie (Graves) Pineo and was raised on a small
farm in White’s Corner, Kings
County.
Ken started school in a one room schoolhouse in
White’s Corner before attending Central Kings Rural High
School. Ken began his working career first as a barber, then car
salesman and retired after many years with the Nova Scotia Liquor
Licensing Board. Ken loved the challenges of starting and building a
business which he successfully accomplished with Ken’s Esso
Service Station, Suds n’ Duds Laundromat and the Driftwood
Restaurant.
Ken was a proud lifetime member of the Berwick
and District Lions Club where in 2016 he received the Melvin Jones
Award, which is the highest form of recognition of Lionism. Ken was a
lifetime member of the Black Rock Baptist Church. He also served as
President of the Berwick & District Board of Trade, a Town of
Berwick Councillor, an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion
Branch No. 69, the West Nova Scotia Regiment, and sat on numerous town
committees including the South Berwick Invitational Tournament
Committee.
Ken lived a joyful and fulfilling life
wintering in Florida for almost 20 years, travelling, golfing, family
camping, snowmobiling and four-wheeling, hunting trips to Newfoundland
and watching horse pulls. Ken’s greatest past time was
spending his summers, with Barb, at the family cottage in
Harbourville. He was the happiest and most content at his abode on the
bay, which he built in 1970. Ken’s role as “Poppy”
was so important to him. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up
and could not have been more proud of each of them. Ken’s
smile never left his face when they were with him. They were the apple
of his eye ….and they adored
him.
Ken will be forever remembered for his hearty
laugh, outgoing personality, generosity, his pride and love for his
community, his ability to have a conversation with anyone he
met….and of course his never-ending love for his family and
many close friends to whom he always reminded to live their lives to
the very fullest.
Ken is survived, and will endlessly be loved
and missed by, his wife of 57 years, Barbara Joyce (Schnare) Pineo;
daughters, Chantal Franey (Alan) and Kendra Sarsfield (Jeff);
grandchildren, Haylee and Adrianna (Austin) Atwood and Hayden and
Maggie Sarsfield; sister, Mary Lou Misner (Richard); brother-in-law,
Martin Bolland and sister-in-law, Alta Bushell (Ray); several nieces
and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters,
Pauline Gates (the late Malcolm) and Geraldine Bolland, as well nephew
Kevin Bolland, father and mother-in-law Glendon and Vivian
Schnare.
Memorial service will take place at 1:00p.m.,
