Born Kenneth Gordon Thompson (“Gordon”) to loving parents Kenneth Harvey and Angela (nee Schmidt) Thompson (both predeceased) on the 26th day of August 1950 in Sudbury, Ontario. Beloved brother to Ronald Glenn, Douglas Garry, and James Richard Thompson. Gordon lived his early years in Belleville, Ontario before moving with his parents to Bramalea, Ontario in 1966 where he graduated from Bramalea Secondary School. Later in life he obtained a certificate in business management from the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto. Gordon briefly held a position at the Toronto Telegram (a newspaper) prior to it’s closing, but spent the vast majority of his career in Technical Sales at Klockner Moeller (and it’s successor firms) in the area of high voltage motor control systems – primarily for nuclear power plants including, but not limited to, the CANDU nuclear reactors – reaching the position of Senior Technical Sales at the time of his retirement in 2018. Gord enjoyed travel and his work brought him to many international destinations. Being deeply curious and tirelessly social in his nature led Gord to become an avid gardener, amateur archeologist, fossil collector, folk dancer, hiker, cross country skier, backpacker, and hopelessly addicted canoe camper. He had an irrepressible sense of humour and championed causes with which he identified. Gord held many positions in charitable organizations including Presidencies of both the Toronto Bruce Trail Club and in his later years the Canadian Friends Historical Association.
He will be dearly missed by the myriad of people whose lives he not only touched but profoundly improved through his gentle guidance. Gord passed peacefully with family at his side on 6th day 1st month 14, 2022 in the 72nd year of his age.
Services will be held in the Quaker tradition at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home in Newmarket, Ontario Saturday, January 22nd.
