Obituary
“Serve One Another In Love” ~ Galatians 5:13
With deep sorrow and love, the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather at the age of 80 on February 24, 2022, in Edmonton, Alberta, with his wife and daughters by his side.
Ken is lovingly remembered by his wife Theresa (Vanderwell), his children Heather (Terry), Jennifer (Cory), Kristine (Steve), grandchildren Hailey (Sam), Devaney (Jonathan), Isaac (Shayla), Adrianna (Keaten), Jonathan, and Corbin, and great-granddaughter, Vanessa, and younger siblings Marilyn (Lloyd), Patricia (Robert) and Roger (Carmen), sister-in-law Irene, brother-in-law Richard (Jeanie), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Ken was predeceased by his father William, mother Nora, and infant daughter, Michelle.
Ken was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on September 10, 1941. The Albrecht family made their home on a farm north of Stony Plain. Ken grew up and worked on the family farm as a young man and later formed A&V logging with brother-in-law Jerry Vanderwell beginning his lengthy career supporting the community and families of Peers and the surrounding area. Ken was committed to a life of service, service to his family, community, and province. Ken’s contributions improved the lives and communities he worked faithfully for and served throughout his lifetime.
Ken married Theresa Vanderwell on April 10, 1965. They lived in Edmonton and then Stony Plain until 1973 when they moved to Peers, Alberta, where they lived until 2019 when they made their way to Edson. Ken dedicated his life to his community through his entrepreneurial pursuits in the logging industry, heavy equipment hauling along with his brother Roger ~ Albrecht Brothers’ Trucking Company, and then became a county councillor and Reeve for three terms with the Improvement District #14 (now Yellowhead County), Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board Member, and the Tire Recycle Management Board of Alberta. Ken was always actively involved in the community facilitating the creation of McLeod Valley Recreation Area and establishing the annual Gold Dust Daze, the Yellowhead County Jerry Vanderwell Memorial Park, and served on numerous boards and committees for the betterment of Yellowhead County residents. Ken enjoyed many outdoor and leisure pursuits such as hunting, local and west coast deep-sea fishing, curling, local community events and theatre performances, Sunday drives in Yellowhead County and beautiful Alberta, visiting and travelling with friends, playing cribbage, Canasta, and scrabble, long walks with Theresa, his Chesapeake Bay Retriever dogs, and his beloved acreage gardening plot and greenhouse. Ken shared his wise counsel, sage advice, and bounty with all he met. His greatest joy in life resided in his relationships with others; relationships with colleagues, neighbours, close friends, his extended family, and his beloved wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchild sustained him throughout his lifetime.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Joe Wynne Branch 51 on Friday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m., with refreshments and a time of fellowship to follow. Internment in McLeod Valley Cemetery, Yellowhead County, Alberta, with family in attendance will be held in the springtime.
