Karen Ruth Jonson
January 31, 1945 – May 6, 2022
Kamloops BC- Karen R. Jonson 77, died peacefully on Friday May 6, 2022, at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home. Born January 31, 1945, in Strasbourg Saskatchewan, Karen was the daughter of Edgar and Ruth (Forsman) Jonson.
Karen graduated from the University of Alberta in 1966 and was a registered nurse for 53 years, instrumental in organizational change improving the recovery of cardiac surgical patients, and developing care standards for hospital units, senior’s homes, and hospice care facilities. Karen taught nursing at Kwantlen College and Trinity Western University in BC, passing her knowledge, skills, and passion for quality nursing care on to future generations of nurses. She received the CRNBC Nursing Award of Distinction in 2009.
Karen loved music and participated in choirs throughout her life in church and the community. Most recently she was a member of Frontline Voices, participating in numerous concert events, and Breath of Heaven, singing for those in Hospice.
Karen loved travel. Her adventures took her to Italy, Ireland, Austria, Venice, Bermuda, St. Maarten, Hawaii, Arizona and more.
Karen loved her family and friends deeply. She will be greeted by her parents and many aunts, uncles and cousins and friends who went before her. Her immediate family were at her side to walk her home including her daughters Karolyn (husband Mike) Hendra and Stacey Cannon, grandchildren Anna and Christopher (Adele Wong) Hendra and her sister Lois Jonson. So many of her loved ones sent greetings and prayer support during this time and the family is so grateful to know Karen was cherished by so many.
A small celebration of life will be held June 4th for close family and friends and Karen will be laid to rest in Saskatchewan later this summer.
