Judye Russell – age 82 of Knoxville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 24, 2022. Originally from Luttrell, Judye was an accomplished pianist and truly extraordinary musician. She attended Carson-Newman University and married the late Kenneth Russell with whom she raised three children. She taught hundreds and hundreds of piano students over the years and also worked for decades as the iconic pianist at The Orangery in Knoxville, as well as, at her church. In addition to instilling a love of music in many, Judye saw the best in everyone – especially the least, the lost, and the last. She would have never admitted it but was a phenomenal cook who could prepare the best meals you’ve ever eaten in your life – a trait she passed on to each of her three children. Through a pan of cornbread, pot of soup, roast, or pie, she invested in the lives of others without fanfare, always using love as the secret ingredient.
Preceded in death by parents, Bethel and Mary Lee Stowers; siblings, Dallas Reed Stowers, Mary Jo Lee, and Earl Stowers; son, Steven Edward Russell; and husband, Jack Brackner, who provided companionship later in life.
Survived by children, Dean Russell, and Lee Ann and Tim Parker; granddaughters, Hannah Hopper (Phillip) and Kensey Zimmerman (Cody); three great-grandchildren she was proud to show off at every opportunity; and best friend and devoted sister, Betsy Frazier (Mike). The family also wishes to send special gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff who provided care to Judye over the years, including the staff of Oakwood Senior Living and Amedisys Hospice.
The family will receive friends 6:00-7:30 PM Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Bridges Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 7:30 PM with Pastor Tim Parker and Chaplain Scott Payne officiating.
