Obituary
Hitchens, Judith (Judy) Elaine – The Hitchens family is saddened to announce the passing of Judith Elaine Hitchens, beloved Daughter, Sister, Mother, Aunt and Grandmother. Judith (Judy) was born in Toronto, but spent most of her life in Nova Scotia, most recently in Bear Point, Shelburne County. She was the daughter of the late Ruby Lillian (Murphy) Hitchens and the late Loring Gordon Hitchens. She was predeceased by Grandparents, Ellen and Frank Murphy, and Helen and Frank Hitchens. She was also predeceased by a sister during birth. Judy is survived by her devoted son, Kris, his wife Brandi, and their son Brody of Halifax. She is also survived by siblings Laurie Hitchens, Frank Hitchens (Nanci), Sandra Winchester (Peter) and her son Matthew, Alison (Earle) Banks, and their sons Benjamin and Alex, Uncle John Murphy, Yarmouth, and many cousins. Judy worked in a variety of jobs early on, and then settled into a thirty-four-year career as Library Technician at Barrington Municipal High School, where she was still employed at the time of her death, at the age of 71. She was much beloved and respected by students and colleagues. Judy provided a safe haven for many students, with many waiting in a line at the door to get in. She helped form the chess club, and provided support, a listening ear, and sometimes a meal for anyone in need, while at the school. Arrangements are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. In keeping with Judy’s requests, cremation has taken place, and there will be no service. A private gathering of family and friends will take place in the future, where we will laugh and cry as we remember Judy, with her favorite Gordon Lightfoot singing in the background. The family encourages anyone who’s lives have been touched, or to share a memory of Judy, on her face book page, Judith Hitchens Nova Scotia. Donations in her memory to promote animal welfare, or the BMHS breakfast program, will be greatly appreciated.
