Joy Sloan
1933-2022
Sloan, R. Joy
In her
90th year, Joy peacefully passed and is now in
heaven for eternity.
Joy was the beloved
wife of the late Reverend Douglas Sloan (2011) and sibling of Laurie
Mitchell (Clark), Harry Greenwood (Betty), and Ernie Greenwood
(Janice). Joy was the loved mother of Ann Elliott, Phil
Hutton (Janice Hutton), Helena Hutton (Tom Peters), and Louis Hutton
(Barb Hutton). Grandma Joy will be deeply missed by her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Everyone who met mom
was quick to remark that she was the embodiment of her name.
Mom could light up an entire room with her JOYous smile. Mom
was a pioneer in the field of special education and was recognized
both nationally and internationally for her outstanding contributions
to the field of learning disabilities. Mom was also an
exceptional golfer and curler. Mom was forever learning,
reading, and loved word puzzles of any kind.
‘Hymns with Joy’ were often heard throughout the
Elliott Community, and mom was quick to play for any celebration,
event, service or just because there was a piano available.
Notwithstanding all of mom’s accomplishments, her greatest
JOY was her children and grandchildren, and we are all so blessed to
call her our mother.
Our family would like
to thank all the staff at both the
Ellington and Unit 6 West at Guelph General Hospital for the love they
showed our mom.
