Joseph ‘Joey’ Aucoin
1966-2022
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph
“Joey” Aucoin on September 14, 2022, surrounded by
the love of staff and friends. Joey was born on July 11, 1966 in Glace
Bay, Cape Breton. He spent his early childhood years raised in loving
foster homes in Glace Bay.
Joey graced HCRS with his sweet presence on August 22, 1985.
He has been a blessing to the HCRS community since.
Joey was a true Cape Bretoner through and through. He often
greeted people with a hearty “Hi Bye”. He usually
always had a smile on his face and was always thankful for everything
that was provided to him.
Joey was retired from Summer Street Industries. He was a
member of the SSI choir. He was a former athlete of Special Olympics,
track and bowling.
Joey was always a social butterfly. He loved people,
especially the ladies. He enjoyed joking and teasing people and loved
when he was teased back. He loved sitting in his room with his
headphones on singing away to all his CDs or playing his
guitar.
Joey had a beautiful spirituality; he attended St. John the
Baptist Church and then moved on to Holy Name Church in Westville and
always enjoyed Saturday Mass and felt very loved by the congregation.
Joey always ended his day with prayers.
Joey loved to go for drives and take part in activities. He
loved his trips to Cape Breton with Colleen, Charles and June. Lots of
laughs, singing and fun were enjoyed. Last year he was able to enjoy
one last Cape Breton overnight trip with Sara, Colleen and Carl,
leaving lots of cherished memories.
Joey is survived by his roommates, Carl, Fred and Evan and
also his loving staff. He will be dearly missed by the McPherson
family who loved him very much.
Joey was predeceased by his roommate and friend, Phillip
Archibald.
Joey has been cremated. A celebration of his life will be
held at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow on
Tuesday, September 20, 2022, with a visitation from 1-2pm followed by
service at 2pm, with Father Gary MacPherson and Rev. Charles McPherson
officiating. A burial will follow at Abercrombie
Cemetery.
A special thank you to Dr. Park, Dr. Farrell and Rachel
(Palliative Care), and the VON for the wonderful care they provided
Joey. Donations in Joey’s name can be made to Highland
Community Residential Services, 115 MacLean St., 2nd Floor, New
Glasgow, NS, B2H 4M5.
