Obituary of John Joseph MacEachern
NEW GLASGOW – John Joseph MacEachern, 79, Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, formerly of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 13, 2022, in the home.
Born in Croft, Antigonish County, he was a son of the late Gregory Jerome and Matilda Martina (Burns) MacEachern. John had been employed in the forestry industry for many years and later in life as a taxi driver. He was very creative, building many wooden airplane weathervanes and a replica of St. Thomas Church, Salmon River, Guysborough County. John was a soft-spoken man, who possessed a wonderful sense of humour and adored his dog, Scooby.
Surviving are his children, Annie (David), Antigonish; Johnny (Joanne), Antigonish; Charlie (Allison), Mt. Uniacke; stepdaughters, Janet (Ashley) Cameron, New Glasgow; Cathy (John) Verhagen, Broadway; Britny (Kelsea) Wilkinson, Westville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa (Dave) Zellers, Pennsylvania; Margaret, New Glasgow; Mary, Halifax; brothers, Donald, New Glasgow; Norman, Hants; Carmen (Ivy), Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Cunningham); daughter, Yvonne; son, Gordon; sisters, Sarah Kelly, Ann Smith and Christina Cabello; brothers, Lawrence and Andrew in infancy, George, Morris and Jerome.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17th in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, New Glasgow with Rev. Glen Matheson officiating. Private interment will be held in South River Cemetery, St. Andrew’s at a later date.
