It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John De Groote of Simcoe, peacefully at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe, on Monday, January 3, 2022 in his 76th year. John had worked for the American Can, was a Correctional Officer at Sprucedale Youth Centre for 10 years and was a proud long-time tobacco farmer in Norfolk County. In his retirement, he continued his love of the outdoors by golfing, biking and walking. John is survived by his loving wife Joanne (Van De Velde) De Groote. Loving father of Steven De Groote (Lisa) and step grandfather of Meghan and Julia. Brother of Cyriel De Groote and brother-in-law of Mary Van De Velde. Also survived by several nieces & nephews. Special “Kum” to Ryan Horvat. Predeceased by his parents: Honore (1978) & Mary (Kuchar) De Groote (1977) and by his in-laws, Maurice (2005) & Georgette (Duwyn) Van De Velde (2017). Also by his stepson, Michael Valcheff (1994) and by his sister, Janet Adams (2005) and by his brother-in-law, Archie Van De Velde (2019). (Facial Coverings and Social Distancing Required). In consideration of the continuing health and safety of our friends and family, a Private Family Funeral Service will take place with Inurnment in Delhi Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to the Delhi Community Health Centre or the Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario will be gratefully appreciated by the family.
