MONAGHAN, John Harold
74, Coxheath
Surrounded by family, John Monaghan, husband, father and grandfather, passed away Saturday September 17, 2022 in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He was the son of the late John and Florence Monaghan, of Sydney.
John was a hard worker from the age of 16 and a proud and longtime member of Labourer’s International Union Local 1115. He always said he had worked on most of the largest construction projects on Cape Breton Island. There was nothing that John could not do. He could do it all; carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical; never needing to call a repairman. You could always find him in his garage working on something, especially farm tractors. He enjoyed his Friday visits to his nephew David’s garage. He owned and enjoyed horses in the 70’s and gardening during his retirement. John loved spending time in Margaree with family and grandchildren, having campfires, canoe trips and firework displays.
John is survived by his wife Jane, three daughters, Tricia, Lisa (Kevin) and Kim (Roger), five grandchildren, Riley, Brianna, Mini, Tyson and Avery. He is also survived by his sisters Sandra (David) and Marion, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents and sisters Joanne and Sharon.
As per his wishes, there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place.
The family extends sincere gratitude to the An Cala Staff for their kindness, empathy and compassion during a difficult time in our lives.
Donations can be made to the An Cala Unit at the CBRH or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
