In Loving Memory of John Michael Wass
Age: 73
Residence: Nelson, British Columbia
Day and Date of Death: Monday, July 11, 2022
Cause of Death: Passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
John was born in Toronto on August 26, 1948, to Herbert and Dorothy Wass. John is survived by five siblings: Robert, Connie, Susan, Peter, and Victoria. John met his wife Elizabeth at Trent University and they married after graduation, in 1971. They raised four daughters together. John had a distinguished career at Ontario’s Ministry of Correctional Services; he and his family moved to various parts of province for his work before settling in London. John and Elizabeth retired in 2009 and moved to Nelson, BC to “enjoy the good life” and be closer to their grandchildren.
John was an avid reader, loved to play tennis and ski, visit with family and friends as often as possible, and had a self-admitted sweet tooth! John held that one’s mindset is extremely important and if you believed you could do it, you could. This determination and optimism took him far in his career and personal life. When asked what he would most want remembered about him he replied, “I enjoyed life and people. Life is a gift from God – but it is short so make the best of it.”
John is survived by his wife Elizabeth, and daughters Adrienne, Melissa, Janine, and Megan. His family grew to include his daughter’s spouses, Patrick, Martin, Mandy, and Alex, and grandchildren Freya, Elysha, Johnathon, and Evelyn. You will forever be in our hearts and live on in our memories.
Donations in John’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
