John peacefully passed away on August 21, 2022. By his side was his wife Toni who was his best friend, truest love, and life-long partner. Treasured forever, the 36 years of memories John and Toni shared together. John is the precious son of Sam (d. 2008) and Mary (d. 2011) Kovach, and adored son-in-law of Italo (d. 2020) and Giuseppina Damiani. Cherished brother and brother-in-law of Michael and Sharon (d. 2020) Kovach, Leslie Kovacs and fiancé Frank Varga, and Josie and Charlie Lauricella. Beloved uncle of Christopher, Wesley, and Jaclyn Kovach; Alexandra and Stephanie Jachymek; and Julia Tolton. Dearest zio of Olivia and Ava Lauricella; and Stefanie, Michaela-Ray, and Victoria Scornaienchi, all of whom endured Uncle John’s antics and pranks over the years. John valued the friendship and the comradery he shared with his golfing buddies, John Martin, Ross Unsworth, Ronnie Kovacs, and Rich Massie, and the many good times with his long-time friends John Farrell and John MacDonald.
John was a dedicated employee of Dofasco, and appreciated all of the opportunities that working at Dofasco afforded him. All who knew John recognized his creativity, artistic abilities, and tremendous sense of humour. John truly enjoyed sharing a beer, glass of wine, or rye and coke with good company.
John and his family wish to express their tremendous gratitude for the years of care he received from Dr. Benger and RN Wendy, Dr. Kouroukis and RN Karen and, more recently, from the 4-C hematology team at Juravinski Hospital.
Visitation to pay final respects will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 2:00 – 5:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Bay Gardens Funeral Home “William J. Markey Chapel”, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton (905.574.0405). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church (Our Lady of Lourdes site), 416 Mohawk Road East, Hamilton.
