Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of John Skalos announce his passing on September 30th, 2022. Born in Timmins, Ontario, John died at the age of 81 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with his family by his side, after a hard-fought battle with COVID-19.
John leaves behind his wife, Lise, and children, Lori and Greg. He is predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Karolina, and his sister, Anne Yedinak. He will be missed by nephews and niece, Robert Yedinak, Tanya Rumo and Ryan Rumo, and extended family.
John was known as a friendly soul who loved his family, friends, a good laugh, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and sometimes a good laugh at the expense of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He enjoyed a life full of sports, with vivid memories of playing hockey beginning as a child in northern Ontario right through into his 70s. He loved to listen to music and you would rarely find him without something playing in the background, whether it was an old favourite or an artist he’d just learned about.
There will be no funeral service per request, but a celebration of life will be scheduled for a future date.
If you wish to donate, the family requests that donations be made to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in recognition of the exemplary treatment and compassion he and the family received in his time there. Donations can be made at the following link: nanaimohospitalfoundation.com/donate-icu/
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John George Skalos January 23 1941 September 30 2022 (age 81)..
