Obituary of Johann Freistatter
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Hans on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the age of 71. Devoted husband of the late Louise for 40 years. Loving father of Ryan (Alison), Sara (Raz), Hans, Heidi (Michael) and Katrina (Kodie). Cherished Grandpa of Roman, Raquel and Blake. Dear brother of Frances (Andy), Peter (Pat), Ted, Martin (Linda) and Ruth. He is predeceased by his parents Karoline and Ambrose.
Hans was born in Graz, Austria and emigrated to Canada as a youngster, landing in Heron Bay, Ontario. He was raised in Chapleau, where he met the love of his life, Louise. He joined CP Rail as a labourer in 1967 and rose through the ranks to Roadmaster, a position he excelled at until retiring in 2014 after 47 years of service. This afforded him a long-awaited opportunity to spend countless hours antiquing, gardening, reading and tending to a faithful canine crew, including his beloved Chevy.
Final goodbyes entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre, (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) where family and friends may visit on Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a time of sharing at 2:00 p.m. For those wishing to make a charitable donation in Hans’ name, the Canadian Wildlife Foundation, Covenant House and the Canadian Cancer Society were some of the charities that Hans supported.
Rest easy, Dad. Mom will take care of you now. “Remember that what you knew of me is with you always. What is buried is only the shell of what was. Do not regret the shell, but remember the man. Remember the father.”
