Obituary of Joan Amelia Haynes
HAYNES , Joan- Halifax/formerly of Lantz. It is with great sadness; we share with you the passing of Joan A. Haynes. Born July 24, 1933, in her family home in Lantz, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Flora (Green) Miller. She passed January 11, 2022 in Halifax.
Joan had a long career starting with Bell in Ontario and then Maritime Tel & Tel in Halifax. It was with MT&T she made many life-long friendships. She spent many years as a Leader in Beavers and Cubs.
After her retirement, Joan and John were able to travel to many new places in their 5th wheel trailer with long-time friends Jim & Margaret Oakes, discovering many warm spots to camp. They went to Hong Kong to see Peter and Sue to discover exciting and wonderful places; an Ocean Cruise to Alaska with Dennis and Cindy was a highlight for all. Ottawa to see Michael, Calgary for a family wedding with Charlotte and Church with Jim. They loved their Rocky Mountain train trip through the Rockies not to compete with their 2000 New Year’s Eve train to Truro with Amanda and Lauren. We never knew where they would go next.
Keeping busy with fund raising activities (How many pies would you like to buy???) Joan was as a proud member of Christ Church in Lantz and St George’s in Dutch Settlement.
She was a wonderful wife of 66 years to John Haynes, a mother to Michael, Dennis (Cindy), Ann (Justin), Todd and Peter (Suzanne). She especially loved that she was Grammie to Matthew, Amanda (Nancy), Lauren (Adam) and Elizabeth.
She was also Grammie to Step-Grandchildren, Brittany (Chris), Jennifer (Nathan and their son Jonathon) and Tyler (Chloe and their daughter Evelyn); survived by brother, Carl (Joyce) of Lantz. Joan had many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Harry (Blanche) and Hector; sisters, Grace (Jim), Shirley and Marie (Robie).
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home. There will be no visitation prior to the Celebration of her Life which will be held at St. George’s Church, 11 am July 15, 2022, with Rev. Dr. Jane Magrath and Rev. Patty McKenna officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St George’s Anglican Church, Dutch Settlement N.S.
