Obituary
Joan (Roy) Biasucci passed away peacefully in her 90th year with family by her side on Tuesday, June 14th in Calgary, Alberta. She was the beloved wife of Eugene Biasucci (predeceased 1988) and the loving mother of Donna (Andy Lloyd) of Calgary, Gene (Noemi) of Texas, Phyllis (John Montgomery) of Sudbury, Peter (Lynn Marie) of St. Catharines, Anna (Wayne Paulson) of Calgary and Mia (Stefan Mayer) of Germany. Cherished grandmother of Tyler, James, Matthew, Sydney, Dionne, Morgan, Kyle, Braydon, Alina, Rory, and Finn. Great grandmother to Jaycen, Camron, Olivia, and Ava.
The eldest child of Louise and Onesime Roy (both predeceased), Joan was born and raised in Britt, Ontario. She was the reliable, loving big sister to Sister Kathleen, Elizabeth, Adrienne, Frances (predeceased), Louise, Onesime (predeceased), Andre, Robert and Gourley.
She began her teaching career in Britt before the family moved to Sudbury in 1965. A proud and dedicated teacher, she taught elementary school for 34 years with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Her greatest joy was teaching children to read and even after retiring, many former students would remember her with affection.
Joan was a woman of strong faith and conviction. She was actively involved in her parish (St. Andrew the Apostle Church) as a Eucharist Minister and was a long-standing member of the Catholic Women’s League.
Family and friends will miss her gentle disposition and her kindness. People were drawn to her calm ways and her great listening skills, and quick wit.
A Celebration of Life will take place on July 21st, at 1:00 pm at Saint James, in Okotoks, Alberta and later on October 15th, at 1:00 pm at the Holy Family Church, in Britt, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House Toronto or charity of your choice.
