It is with immense sorrow and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jessica Audrey Hatton of Edmonton, who passed away at the age of 31 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 5 years, Stephen Wallis. Dear daughter of Brad Hatton and Sheila Boretski (Edmonton); daughter-in-law to William Wallis (Edmonton) and Carol Wallis (Nova Scotia); sister to Jeffrey (Edmonton); sister-in-law to Tim (Kylah) (Peace River), Mary Teresa Owens (Scott) (Maidstone) and Kathleen (Edmonton); Jessica will also be remembered by numerous aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends across Canada and in Europe.
Jessica received her High School diploma from Archbishop McDonald High School, a Bachelor of Music degree at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta, a certificate in the study of the pedagogical method at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Kecskemet, Hungary, and her Education After-Degree from the Concordia University of Edmonton. Music was Jessica’s life. She sang in choral groups, played piano and the flute.
She briefly taught music in the Evergreen Catholic Separate School Division at Holy Spirit Catholic School in Devon, Alberta for a year, and then decided to take a break from teaching.
Jessica loved having pets, whether hers or her friends. Her love for animals was no more evident than for her pampered cat called “Garbage”.
Friendships mattered most. Jessica cared deeply for family and those people who she went to school with, and for those within her social circle. She held a special place in her heart for those living on the street or in homeless shelters. She and her husband would put together small hampers of clothing, toiletries, and gifts, and hand them out personally to the homeless. There were always spare McDonalds coffee cards in her car to give out.
She accompanied her husband on his many camping trips and adventures, and fiercely supported him in all his pursuits and dreams. She said that she had the best husband.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, with visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12810 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
