Jerry Mydonick 2022

Jerry’s Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Jerry Mydonick, beloved husband of the late Sylvia Mydonick, announce his passing, with his children at his side, at the Regina General Hospital on February 2, 2022, at the age of 77 years.
Jerry was born on October 12, 1944, in Canora, SK, to Walter and Mary (Mackisey) Mydonick and was raised on the family farm. As a young man, he attended school in the Mohyla district, where he achieved his grade six education. At the age of 15 years, he went to work for CNR in Thompson, MB. He started out as a labourer and eventually operated a dragline.
In the spring of 1965, Jerry met the love of his life, Sylvia Mudry, at a dance in Preeceville, SK. They were married on November 27, 1965, in Rama, SK. As they started their lives together, they moved to Wadena, SK, where Jerry began working as an elevator agent with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He continued to work with Sask Wheat Pool until 1989.
Together, Jerry and Sylvia were blessed with three children, Dwayne, Shelley and Cory. In 1975, they relocated and settled on a farm northeast of Canora, SK, where they started a mixed farming operation and raised their family.
In between farming, Jerry also worked in the pipeline construction industry as a foreman and equipment operator and acquired the nickname, “Popeye.”
Jerry loved playing accordion and in 1975, along with three other members, cut a record in Yorkton, SK. John Krochak and The Drifting Country Boys music is still played on Gx Radio today.
Jerry’s passion in life was farming and operating equipment. He loved making shishliki and sausage and entertaining family and friends. He was well known for his sense of humour and outgoing personality. Hockey was a favourite pastime, and he attended every game he could, especially to watch his children and grandchildren.
Fishing, trapping, and hunting were amongst his many interests, and he took his dog, Taffy, everywhere he went.
Jerry will be remembered as a big man with a big heart, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Mary; his wife, Sylvia; and his brothers, Lawrence, Marvin, and Ronnie.
He is survived by his children: Dwayne (Clarissa), Shelley, and Cory (Marley); grandchildren: Riley (Richele), Casey (Breanne), Felicity, Maxwell, Tucker, and Tessica; his great-granddaughter, Carmen; three brothers, Eugene, Fred, and James; and three sisters: Elaine, Shirley, and Francis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The Mydonick family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude for the support and love shared with them throughout their loss.
In Jerry’s honour, a Public Visitation will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2022. The Celebration of his Life will continue at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2022, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac, as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery. The Eulogy will be given by Shelley Mydonick. Acting Pall bearers are Dwayne, Cory, Riley, Casey, Maxwell and Tucker Mydonick.
