Jeannette’s Obituary
Jeannette Marie Gaudet passed away peacefully in La Villa Acadienne, Meteghan on Friday, August 5, 2022. During her decline in health, she had the unwavering support of her husband Willie Melanson, and her loving family.
Jeannette was born in Comeauville on July 18, 1937 to Marguerite Marie Comeau and Jean Batiste Gaudet. She was elegant, creative, outgoing, and ahead of her time. She was always eager for new experiences and was active in every community she joined. Jeannette was a proven leader: her organizational skills and ability to get things done were commendable. She took pleasure in making clothing for herself and her children, and in her later years, loved a good Frenchy’s find. She was active in the church throughout her life and took part in lay ministries.
Jeannette took great pride in gathering her family and, like her mother, would often marvel at the fact that she “started it all.” She remained close to extended family and friends and was proud of her Acadian roots. As a young mother, she would pack her five kids in her VW bug to attend special events, exposing them to a culture that she loved. She never ceased living courageously, attending university later in life and swimming her first lap after the age of fifty.
Jeannette enjoyed spending time with her siblings, of which she was the eldest. She is survived by sisters, Bernice (Robert) and Denise (the late Jack) and was predeceased by brothers, John (Lydia) and Allan (Linda). She was proud to be the mother of Kim (the late David), Colin (Jennifer), Cathy (Ken), Kevin (Laura) and Michele (Christopher); the stepmother of Lorraine (Rick) and Yvonne; grandmother, step-grandmother, great-grandmother, and on the Gaudet side, a step-great-grandmother to many.
Her family would like to thank the community that supported her when she returned to Clare. They embraced her and surrounded her with music, dance, and the friends she loved. Also, a big thank you to La Villa staff for the excellent care given to her over the past several months, and to Brenda Amirault and her home care staff for making it possible for Jeannette to remain in her home for as long as she was able to.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home. As per Jeannette’s wishes, there will be no viewing. A private funeral service will be held at a later date.
