Jean Paul Pidgeon – Pops, JP, Paul, Paulie, Pidge
(Oct 23, 1941 to Apr 13, 2022)
There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. On Wednesday, April 13th, in his home, at the age of 80, we lost a Dad, Grampa, Great Grampa and a friend to so many. He was the father of Liz (Jeff Allan) and Paul & special “Pops” to Michael (Marina) and McKenzie (Clayton Dunnington).
His apartment was filled with pictures of his two grandchildren, whom he cherished everyday from the day they were born. He would travel the world to take them places, especially to their sporting events – sun, rain or snowstorm. His heart was filled even more when great grandchildren came to fill our homes. He smiled from ear to ear when Mason, Kinsley and Jackson were around. Also remembered and never forgotten by his siblings Eddie of Cornwall, Ernie (Linda) of Dorion, Sue (Lionel) of Cornwall, sister in law Marilyne (Karl Hennek), brother in laws Alan Gordon & Ian Gordon (Michelle), along with many other family members. He was predeceased by his parents Hughie & Mary Belle Pidgeon (McQuaig), three brothers, two sisters and our wonderful Mom, Carol, who we lost 14 years ago. Not only will we be missing a piece of our heart, Dad made others smile everyday whether it was a simple hello or a long winded story, present or past. Born in Bainsville, ON, October 23rd, 1941, he loved and had a passion for the farm. He later joined the services in 1961-1966. After an “Honourable Release”, he began working at Drummond-McCall in Lachine and drove a cab. My fondest memory of Dad driving cab was when he would come home and I would play with the money dispenser attached to his belt, counting every coin. My brother and I lived in Lachine until 1977, before we all moved to Cardinal, the little town where mom was born. Living in Cardinal, he worked at the bar of the Islander Hotel, Rohm & Haas and joined the Legion, Fire Department & local hockey teams. He moved to Prescott years after where his friendships grew bigger. He looked after Prescott Place and so many who came and went. He would frequent so many places where friends would gather for a quick drink and a bite to eat. Knowing so many, I am afraid if I started writing a list of everyone’s names , I would miss somebody along the way. Not only that, I would run out of room. Thank you to all who looked out for Dad, especially the last few years. Dad took great pride in his family and many friends he made along his journey with us. He was a man of many stories, many miles and many names – Pops, JP, Paul. Paulie and Pidge.
Until we meet again old timer – “auf Wiedersehen”.
It was Dad’s wishes not to have visitation or a service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The next time you are in Prescott, pick up a drink at Larry’s Mr.Gas, Bobby’s Restaurant or the Outpost Cafe. Say cheers to the ol’ boy !!!
