Obituary
It is with appreciation of a life well-lived and gratitude for many years of memories, that the family of Jean (Lawrence) Palmer, loving wife to the late Brian Palmer, announce her passing which occurred on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Concorde Hall – Shannex.
Jean was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 1st, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Alexander ‘Sandy’ and Ellen (Lang) Lawrence. While working as a civilian at a US Air Force Base in Newfoundland, she met Brian a civilian engineer from Wales, with Mom’s MG sports car as the subject of their first conversation. Mom’s love for Brian led to marriage and to more sports cars!
All that know Jean will appreciate her lively, feisty nature and quick wit. She was an exceptional cook and a creative quilter. She so enjoyed her time spent with friends over the years playing bridge, curling golfing and various social groups. We all aspired to her sense of style keeping with the latest fashions. Jean’s exuberance was evident in her pride in family and in the many interests she pursued with passion. For family, she always tried to be there for the big events and the smaller milestones, so important for all. Jean was always one to enjoy great food, a sweet treat, and her favorite beverage. Sweets and Smarties were always plentiful for sharing with her grand and great grand children. Jean was a force to be reckoned with and we will miss her dearly.
Jean is survived by her children; Steve (Trudi) Palmer of Rothesay, Mike (Michelle) Palmer of St. Albert, Alberta and Sarah (Steve) Zaat of Saint John. Also remembered by her sister Ruth Hodgins, 9 grandchildren: Lisa (Joel), Brian (Chantel), Nick (Tracy), Blair (Alison), Alex (Laura), Sam, Annie, Ethan and Marla, along with 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to husband Brian and her parents, Jean is predeceased by her brother Dr. Sandy Lawrence.
Our thanks and gratitude go out to all the wonderful staff at Concorde Hall. We have appreciated your kindness, care, and support, especially in her final days.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Shadow Lawn Inn (3180 Rothesay Road, Rothesay) on Saturday May 21st from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Interment will be held at Fernhill Cemetery for family following the celebration of life.
