Obituary
Janice Marie Christiansen passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the age of 71 years at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
Janice was born April 2, 1951 at Bentley, Alberta to Hans and Shirley Ree. She was raised on the farm west of Bentley. In 1972 she married Les Christiansen and they were happily married for 50 years. After farming for a few years in the Spruceville district west of Lacombe they purchased a farm north of Valleyview where they raised their family of four. She returned for further schooling and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked for over 30 years at the Valleyview Extended Care. Here she showed her kindness to those in her care. She learned a bit of the Cree language so she could talk with some of her patients. They in turn called her “mihkostikwan” which means a red haired person.
Jan was an animal lover through and through. When trail riding she would often get off her horse, Babe, and walk just to give her a rest. Her various pets were the luckiest in the world to belong to her as they were treated royally.
She was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She would often say, “Us Norwegians like our coffee” and her coffee pot was always on and her home welcoming to all who stopped by.
Janice was truly a kind, compassionate soul who will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Jan is survived by her loving husband, Les; her children, Mandy McDonald, Jens (Tina) Christiansen, Jake (Yvonne) Christiansen, and Josh Christiansen; grandchildren, Logan and Duncan McDonald, Quin, Zoe and Xavier Christiansen, Maria and Wylee Christiansen; her brothers, Paul, Owen (Pat), Buren, Mark (Joan) Ree; her sister, June (Dwaine) Christianson; her mother-in-law, Shirley Christiansen; as well as numerous extended family and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hans and Shirley Ree; her son-in-law, Darin McDonald; her brother, John Ree; and father-in-law, Lawrence Christiansen.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and porter, Troy, at the Red Deer Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to them at this difficult time. It will not be forgotten.
As per Janice’s wishes a private family gathering will take place at a future date.
