Obituary
James Cecil Harold Stroud of Drumheller beloved husband of Sharel Shoff passed away peacefully on May 17, 2022 at the age of 74 years.
Jim was born in Mount St Patrick, Ontario on April 5, 1948 at home to Helen and Sylvester Stroud. He was the second of 12 children.
School was St Patrick School which was run by the nuns.
Jim was raised on a farm and helped his Dad with logging with team of horses. The logs were sold.
Also had milk cows
Jim worked like a hired man and attended school until the age of 17 years at which time he joined the army and was stationed at Cold Lake Alberta.
After the army Jim attended NAIT in Edmonton becoming a red seal Chef. He worked at the various hotels including Mcdonald hotel and Jasper Park lodge as a breakfast chef.
He also worked up North at Coppermine as a cook for camp jobs. He loved the North.
Jim for a time worked in the oil patch helping as a swamper to haul rigs up north.
Jim first started as a grain buyer for the Alberta Wheat Pool in Strathmore and was manager of many different elevators for 25 years at which time the Alberta Wheat Pool closed shop.
In 1996 Jim opened the Lazy J Café in Hanna. There he made homemade soup and sandwiches. Jim was known for his soups because he made them from scratch.
The Lazy J Café was closed in January of 2018 due to Jim poor health.
Jim was an avid hunter and a very good shot. He hunted for big game for many years up until the last 3 years.
Jim belonged to the Masons for about 45 or more years. He belonged to various orders of the lodge. He was also President of the Drumheller Shrine club.
Jim belonged to the Legion in Hanna first and then in Drumheller. He loved the comradeship of the other veterans and took an active part as long as he was able.
Besides his loving wife Jim is survived by his Daughter Joy Godel of Kelowna BC
Son – James Stroud of Ardrossan,
Jim is survived by his adopted family of John and Chanelle Shoff of Drumheller and Isabell Shoff of Calgary
Grandchildren:
Hana and Wes Godel of Kelowna BC
Aimee and Carter Stroud of Ardrossan, AB
Sloan and Fletcher Shoff of Drumheller
Jim is survived by his sisters Betty, Rose, Cecile, Irene and Theresa of Renfrew Ontario
Brothers Neil and Russell
Also many nieces and nephews
Jim was predeceased by brothers Earl and Andy and two small infant children and his parents Helen and Sylvester.
A funeral service will be held at the Drumheller Legion #22 on Thursday May 26, 2022 at 2 pm.
Interment will be at the Drumheller Cemetery.
