It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James Abbott (Born in Summerville, NL), at the Western Long Term Care Facility, in Corner Brook, NL, on Thursday, February 10th, 2022, at the age of 95 years.
Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories his nieces, and nephews; Annie Harris (Beaton) of Port Blandford, Elva Wells (Fred) of Cormack, Joseph Abbott (Florence) of St. John’s, NL, Nellie Frye and Ivan Abbott (Barbara) both of Mt. Pearl, his great nieces, and great nephews; Lori, Robyn, Jonathon, Stephen, Naomi, Jacinta, Marsha, Tammy, Tanya, Dion, and Minetta.
James was predeceased by his parents; Elizabeth and Samuel Abbott, his siblings; Phyllis, Maud Fry (Henry), Eli (Elizabeth), Abel (Gladys), and Absalom (Eva), and his nephew-in-law; Scott Frye. Also left to mourn Jim’s passing is a large circle of coworkers and friends, here in Atlantic Canada where he preached the Gospel, and in many places where he traveled, to reach out and to be a help to those that had already heard and believed.
Jim started in the ministry in 1947 and dedicated his life to that work until he was no longer able. He then returned to Newfoundland to be near his niece, Elva Wells in Cormack, and a year later went to the Deer Lake Manor. Jim’s life demonstrated and did what he wanted that his funeral service would do, that it would speak: “Lots about the Lord’s mercy and Grace”
The funeral service will take place at Carnell’s Funeral Home 329 Freshwater Road, St. John’s, NL, on Thursday, February 17th, 2022, at 11:00 am, with the burial to follow at the Non-Denominational Cemetery in Paradise, NL.
