MacFarlane, James D. “Jim”, of Antigonish, died
peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
It is with great sadness, we announce the death of Jim,
loving husband, devoted father, brother, uncle, and
friend.
Jim was born in Upper Margareee, Inverness County and was a
son of the late John A. “Jack” MacFarlane and Alice B.
(McDaniel) MacFarlane.
He was a graduate of the St. FX University in 1953 and
ordained to the priesthood in 1957. He served in many parishes in
Antigonish Diocese and in Port Cartier East, Quebec until 1975. He
then worked on various construction projects with Sunnyville
Woodcrafters and also as Supervisor of Physical Facilities with the
Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha until retirement in 1997. At
this point, he became the primary caregiver of his children. His life
centered around the love of his immediate family, and he took great
care of all of us.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Shirley and
three sons, Ian, Steven and Daniel. He is survived by his sister,
Sister Mary, CSM and many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and
grand-nephews. Jim was predeceased by his two brothers and their
spouses, Harold (Margaret Ann) and Gerald (Libby) and his sister,
Sister Margaret “Peggy” CSM.
Cremation has taken place and Mass for the celebration of his
life will take place on Monday, August 1, 2022, at St. Ninian
Cathedral, Antigonish at 10:00 a.m. Jim’s good and gracious
friend, Father Allan MacMillian will be officiating. Upon
Jim’s request, visitation will not take place and a
reception will not be held after the burial. Arrangements are under
the direction of C.L Curry Funeral Services,
Antigonish.
The family wish to thank the Congregation of the Sisters of
St. Martha for their generous support of prayer and love. We also
thank Dr. Steve Gallant, Laurie and the doctors and nurses of the
Cancer and Palliative Care Units, of St. Martha Hospital. Online
