McNeil, Hilligonda, “Connie” (nee Kennis)…. It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Hilligonda on Thursday, January 13th, 2022 at the age of 75 at Campbellford Memorial Hospital. Connie was diagnosed with lung cancer in December 2021. She was a strong and fiercely independent woman who died with incredible dignity on her own terms. Connie leaves behind her loving and devoted husband Kevin McGowan of 40 years. Proud mother of Darlene (Roger), Rod (Jennifer) and John. Cherished grandmother of Kirk, Adam, Jake, Shannon, Madeline, Andrew, Mathew, William, Kayla, Tristan and Caitlynn. Great grandmother to Jordan, Sylys, Amelia Kaleb, Piper and Jaxon. Connie will be greatly missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Hilligonda is predeceased by parents Johannes “John” & Helena Kennis and her eldest son Daniel. Connie was born in Leiden, Holland and along with her siblings and her parents she immigrated to Canada in the early 50’s where she grew up. Mom will be missed for her incredible wit, sense of humor and amazing tenacity at whatever she put her mind to.
