On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, Chief Constable Herald (Hal) Jenkins (Ret’d) of Osoyoos passed away surrounded by family after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer at Mariposa Gardens at the age of 83 years.
He was predeceased by his parents and six siblings.
Hal will be fondly remembered by his loving family including Adele, his life partner for 62 years; daughters Kerrie (Todd) Cox and Cindy (Ron) Adams; grandsons Bradyn and Tanner as well as many extended family and friends.
Hal enjoyed a long career as a Police Officer. He joined the RCMP in 1958 and moved on to serve with the West Vancouver Police Department from 1960 – 1998, with the last 12 years as Chief Constable. He was awarded many commendations and awards for his police work. After retirement, Hal and Adele moved from North Vancouver to Osoyoos where they have lived for the past 25 years.
Hal saw the world by plane, cruise ships and RV’ing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, hockey, which included international senior’s hockey until his late 70’s. He also enjoyed rib steaks and good wine with friends.
Hal volunteered his time as a member with the Osoyoos Wildlife and Gun Club and as a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Nurses, Carmen, Manny, Lisa and Wanda for the incredible care during Hal’s short stay in Mariposa Gardens.
The family will announce a date in the near future to celebrate Hal’s life.
