Hedwig Henkel (nee Adam) was born in Kurgany, Poland in 1932, daughter of Helen (nee Peglam) and Fredrich Adam. She had 5 brothers, William (Willie), Art, Reuben, Asap, and Helmut. She is predeceased by all of them, except Helmut.
In the late 40’s her family immigrated from Germany in search of a better life. She met her husband, Paul Henkel, and was married on May 5, 1962. Together, they built a life in Edmonton, AB, raising three beautiful daughters: Diane Holly, Annette Irene, Liana Melinda, as well as one wonderful son, Gordon Paul.
The family faithfully attended Central Baptist Church in Edmonton, raising their children to believe in, and love, the Lord. In 1994, Hedwig and Paul moved to Creston, BC, where they attended Creston Baptist Church and lived out their retirement. In 2018 she returned to Edmonton, living out her final years in Grandview Nursing Home, finally finishing her struggle with dementia at 90 years old.
Hedwig will be missed by her children and their spouses: Diane and Edward Klettke, Annette and Doug Rose, Liana Henkel, Gordon and Valerie Henkel; as well as grandchildren: Micah Klettke (Aida Ahmadi), Justine Klettke, Brandon Rose (Chelsea), Danielle Rose (Brandon Bowles), Olivia Henkel-Mactavish, Julia Henkel-Mactavish, Zachary Henkel, and Ashleigh & Joshua Den Otter. Hedwig was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Grayson, Emmeline, Charleise, Shepard, Malachi, and Benjamin.
Hedwig was a free spirit who was strongly devoted to taking care of her family. She will be missed by all as she was a kind and patient person who loved the people in her life.
