It is with sadness that we have to announce the passing of Helma Karen Doiron of Grand Anse, who passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney on August 28, 2022, at the age of 68 years. Born July 16, 1954, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late James Charles and Georgina (Matthews) Gullickson.
She was a great cook, and would always put an extra potato in the pot just in case someone would stop by who was hungry. She would always tell it like it was. At 3:00 pm you would find her watching her favorite soap. Her doors were always open to whoever would stop by and need anything. Helma really loved a good game of cards, and you would always find a bottle of Pepsi in her hand, and let It be known it had to be a bottle and not a can.
Helma will be dearly missed by her daughter Naomi Dawn (Daniel) Knickle, Cole Harbour; grandchildren Madyson and Kayden Knickle; brother Major Gullickson, Grand Anse; sisters Olivia Benoit, Grand Anse, and Dorothy (Leo) Cooper, Kempt Rd. She is also survived by her chosen brother Hubert (June) MacRae Halifax, sisters-in-law Sheila (Danny) Tyrrell, Arichat, and Margie Gullickson, North Sydney; brother-in-law Stanley Doiron, Mulgrave.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Ulysse John; son, Wallace Charles; brother Gary, and Orville; sister Claudette; nephews Sheldon Benoit, and Shane Tyrell.
Visitation will be held in the River Bourgeois Community Visitation Parlour, River Bourgeois on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 2 – 9 pm. A funeral Service will be held at Black River United Church, Black River on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 2 pm with Minister Donna Lovelace officiating. Burial to follow in the Black River United Cemetery, Black River.
Naomi would like to extend a special thank you to her cousin Shane Benoit for the special care and for being Helma’s dedicated “to go to guy”. She would also like to thank Donna Samson for being there for her whenever needed. And last but least to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital ICU for their dedicated service provided to Helma during her stay there, especially Meagan.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home Ltd., Arichat.
