Obituary of Helen Wile
Wile (Caldwell), Helen Lavernyou – 94 of Wolfville formerly of Falmouth, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen on January 12, 2022. Born in Windsor, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Ada (Ettinger) Caldwell.
Mom could be described as faithful, devoted to family, the best bread maker ever and the family could trust she would lend a hand whenever needed. In her early years, she worked at Bustins, in Windsor, where she learned to make a great ice cream float.
At the age of 53 she studied and received her GED and her driver’s license and finally, at the age of 92, gave up her beloved car. She worked outside the home for many years caring for children. She was steadfast in her faith and enjoyed assisting with the preparation of the monthly meals at the church.
She loved to travel, having visited Cuba, the States with many day trips throughout Nova Scotia to visit family and friends. A ‘highlight’ to mom’s day occurred each time she received a phone call from her brother, Paul or his wife Lynn, asking if she wanted to “go down the valley with them” Mom enjoyed puzzles and crocheting, and has made many items for family and friends.
Mom is survived by her children, Erland (Diane), Hantsport; Maxine (Paul), Cole Harbour; Stephen (Heather), Belmont; Walter (Janet), Yarmouth; Mark (Wendy) New Minas, brothers Paul (Lynn – deceased), Billy (Sandy), David (Nancy), sister Sharon (Dave), grandchildren: Anthony, Greg, Brad, Krista, Heather, Greg T., Matt, Tim, Pete, Angie, Tricia, Billy, Kristen, Sarah, Shawn, Erin, Ellen, Russell, Phelicia and Brittany as well as several great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Helen is predeceased by her loving husband Arnold, son John (Jane), grandchild Christopher; brothers – Clarence, Herman, Johnny, Halley and sisters – Mabel, Jean, and Mary.
The family would like to express sincere ‘thanks’ to the doctors, nurses and all staff at the Wolfville Nursing Home where mom lived for the past few months. She was happy living there and enjoyed the interaction with everyone and the scheduled daily activities. Mom started calling her room ‘home’.
There will be a private family service and burial held at a later date.
