Obituary of Helen Hovius
Hovius, Helen was called to her eternal rest on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Valleyview Home in her 83rd year after a courageous and long battle with Parkinson’s. Helen will be missed and remembered by her siblings Theresa Poortinga, John Hovius (Beth), Sadie Oldewening (Arnold), Ben Hovius (Pat), and Freda McCallum, as well as her brother-in-law Wayne Hoogsteen, her stepbrother Gary Bouwknegt, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Enne and Wiebrije (Wilma) Hovius, brother Wiebrand Hovius, sister Aafke Hoogsteen, and brother-in-law John Poortinga. Helen was born in The Netherlands and immigrated to Canada when she was 13. Her adult life was spent in St. Thomas where she made many good friends over the years, including Marian Weesjes, Glenna Dean, and Mary Anne McMullen.
