BIRD, Helena – passed away peacefully at Marianhill, on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the age of 95 years.
Helena Frances Bird (nee Blaquiere) of Petawawa, beloved wife of the late Robert Benjamin Bird. Dear mother of Gail Yunace (Frank), Nova-Scotia; Linda Slack, Petawawa; George Galbraith (Lisbeth), Denmark; & Roxanne Dodsworth (Neil), New-Brunswick and step-daughter Cathy Pitcher & step-son Douglas Bird. Cherished grandmother of Lorrie-Anne Yunace (Alan) & Frank Yunace (Megan); Patrick Galbraith (Kristina) & Daniel Galbraith (Camilla); Jared Dodsworth (Trinity); Ron Slack (Corina) & Scott Slack. Great-grandmother of Hayden & Alexa Bambury, Ella Yunace, Ava & Andrew Tilley, Kyla & Sydny Slack and Alexander Galbraith. Dear sister of Kevin Blaquiere (Grace). Loving auntie to Cathy Blaquiere, Anna-Marie Oberg, Jamie Blaquiere, Brian & Gary Clapson, Andy & Kevin Blaquiere, Deborah Staples, Roger Staples, and Sean Blaquiere. Daughter of the late James & Laura Blaquiere (nee Gallant). Predeceased by daughter Judy and by siblings Ronald, Ivan, Terry, Joan & Vivian.
Helena loved playing golf, curling and bingo.An enthusiastic fan of hockey, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. Helena, a devout Catholic, loved her family and especially her beautiful grandchildren. In the small village of North Rustico, Prince Edward Island she was known as Helena Jimmy Pat.
The family would like to express to all those who cared for their mother in the past two years their appreciation, especially to the nurses, caregivers and staff of Marianhill who made our mother’s last days peaceful and comfortable. Thank you to Deacon Dan Daley from Our Lady of Sorrows.
Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 12:00 noon followed by burial at Wesley United Cemetery.
