Obituary
One month short of her 90th birthday, Helen passed away peacefully at Cassellhome on March 24, 2022. Helen was reunited with her loving husband, Don (predeceased 2003). Helen is survived by her children, Dawn Ellen Valois, Duane (Patty Gibson) Duquette, D’Arcy (Vicki) Duquette, Danielle (Harry) Abbott, Debra Duquette, Daryl (Mary) Duquette, Dana (Alain) Daunais, Drew (Natasha Orton) Duquette; grandchildren Duane Jr., Greg and Tricia, Cory and Justine, Natalie, Amy, Jason, Gillian and Samantha, Bryanne and Brittany, Brandon, Tyler and Holden; Great Grandchildren Soo and Lucy, Max and Sam, Zachary and Davey, Isaiah, Surayah and Zachary, Silas, Ethan and Beckett, Olivia and Emily, Charlotte and Will, Bridgette, James and Brody, Carter, Aurora and Hunter, Aubrey and Benson, Sophia, Willow and Ellainea. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Lena McParland, and siblings, Inez (Willy d.) Croutch, Geraldine (Clarence d.) Lefebvre, Cliff (Irene) McParland, Andy (Pauline d.) McParland. Survived by Noleen (Ted) Kasey and Clare (Barb) McParland, and brother-in-law Wayne Duquette.
Born in Mattawa, Ontario in 1932 and later moved to North Bay, Ontario. Attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1953. Married in 1954 and embarked on a lifetime of travelling and working throughout Northern Ontario. Helen was an active member of Living Fit, Heritage Gardeners, Catholic Women’s League, and the Canadian Cancer Society, and supportive of various causes. Helen is best known for her love and devotion to her husband and marriage, her unconditional love for her children, and strong advocacy of the hijinks of her grandchildren. Despite the challenges of dementia in recent years, Helen continued to light up at the presence or mention of her great grandchildren.
Family is welcoming visitation at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Sunday March 27th, 2022, from 2:00pm until 4:00 pm and again from 7:00pm until 9:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 28th, 2022, at 10:00am at the Pro Cathedral of the Assumption.
