Hansen, Helen Louise (May 26, 1930 – December 30, 2021)
Helen Hansen of Central New Annan, accompanied by angels and welcomed by Jesus, became a new resident of Heaven on Thursday evening, December 30, 2021. She was 91. Helen grew up in Central New Annan at the base of Baxter Mountain where she roamed the fields and fished the babbling brooks in the hills and valleys around her parents’, Edward and Irene Carruthers’, family farm. Fun fact: Helen’s dad built all the bridges in Colchester County between 1930 and 1953, including one 90 feet over a winding river ravine in Londonderry. Helen became a teacher and taught school in New Annan and Truro until she married Richard Hansen in 1955. In 1960 they left the Hansen family farm near Wallace Bay and moved their growing family of four to Moncton, New Brunswick, where Richard managed a TRW Canada branch warehouse for 30 years until his retirement in 1990. Richard and Helen brought up four children in Moncton and were active members at Emmanuel Baptist Church. After Richard and Helen returned to their Nova Scotia roots in 1990, Richard expanded the family cottage in New Annan. Until 2005 Richard and Helen lived in the southern US during the winter months. Richard preceded Helen to Heaven, passing peacefully at the cottage on May 29, 2020. Helen, the youngest of 11 children, is survived by their four children: Karen Daniel (Tim), John Hansen (Maisie), Ruth Schell (Mike), and Richard Hansen (Darla). Also surviving are Helen’s sisters, Hilda and Phyllis. Helen has 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren who adored her. Helen enjoyed traveling and was known for her cheerful, pleasant disposition as well as her kindness, highly developed sense of humor and her hospitality. She was also an avid Bible reader and had an extensive prayer list of people she prayed for every day. Due to the winter weather and the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, a private burial service will be held in the spring of 2022.
